Attempting to evade the traditional A/S/L style about-section I started thinking of something akin to an about-motivation. Days later, as my toddler and I journeyed the sensational zen-like void that is the IKEA couch department on a Friday morning, this instead shaped into a line of thought more like the intro to a personal manifesto for a smaller web.
It was after having arrived in the restorative lands beyond the void, as our esurient stomachs had been appeased with vegetarian meatballs, that I remembered even Marx & Engels didn't conflate private crap and their manifesto thingy.
So here's the thing I wrote. On its own page instead. I really do like it (and am aware the first and third verse are rather weak) as it alludes strongly on why this website exists.
As a TL;DR: I'm trying to escape from being broadcasted to. In my teens online life was that of participation. I had places where creativity, dialogue and learning were key. Connection became community. While today everything is social I often can't even find humanity.
As some years ago I found myself enjoying community on Mastodon I also realised it's really only been a decade or so that I had found myself glued to the likes of Facebook, Twitter, Reddit and Linkedin. Places designed to broadcast to the users of TheirSpace.
"Being online" is a part of my life that I enjoy. So as I never stopped being happy on some traditional forums, the fediverse/Mastodon and in private chats with people I've known virtually for many years I figured it's time to again have a true Home on the Web.
On community. Here's some of our chicken:
So here we are, the actual about stuff. My name is Pepijn and I'm a Dutch guy living in rural Denmark with my partner and child. I was born in the 1980s and lived in a number of European countries before settling here in Denmark.
I'm one of these people that ends up doing All The Hobbies and will surely run out of life before running out of hobbies. I enjoy everything from reading sci-fi, to model building, to deep dives into random topics, to spending time on our woodland. It's a luxury problem.
Les Lunes de Jupiter, French for 'the moons of Jupiter', is a name my partner and I came up with years ago for if we ever start a bed & breakfast. It works well for a shared website as there's plenty of moons to label subdomains with. Hence io.leslunesdejupiter.eu
I designed this to be accessible on both desktop and mobile. Content and style are as separated as I can manage. Colours are borrowed from Google as I've always liked them and as they're probably well researched. I assume it's fine as they stole all my stuff as well :-)
